How Do I Get SWELL?

Project SWELL is designed for any teacher or school district in the San Diego region who wishes to include pollution prevention and hands-on inquiry-based lessons in their science curriculum. If you are a teacher in grades K, 2, 4, 5, or 6 in the San Diego Unified School District, you should already have a Project SWELL kit in your classroom. If you don’t, please contact the Project SWELL program coordinators to help you find your kit and binder. Outside of the San Diego Unified School District, or in secondary schools, please read on about Project SWELL before contacting us.
SWELL is unique because:
-
It is San Diego-specific and addresses environmental issues pertaining to our local watersheds and region
-
It incorporates pollution prevention practices so that children learn ways in which they can be the solution not the problem to environmental issues
-
It is a hands-on program that teaches children to make the connection first hand and minimize impacts to this sensitive coastal environment
More about the Project SWELL classroom kits:
The lessons align with the State Science Content Standards for California Public Schools, Science Framework for California and meet the learning objectives set out by the California Department of Education. The hands-on SWELL kits are an important tool to teach the inquiry-based science lessons in all classrooms, and lessons are aligned with the Environmental Principles and Concepts of the Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI).
If your district is interested in SWELL and you would like to discuss the possibility of introducing it in your area, please contact our program coordinators for more information.
